Edward G. Robinson

Edward Goldenberg Robinson (1893-1973) was a Romanian-born American actor. A popular star during Hollywood's Golden Age, he is best remembered for his roles as gangsters, such as Rico in his star-making film Little Caesar (1931) and as Rocco in Key Largo (1948).

Other memorable roles include insurance investigator Barton Keyes in the film noir Double Indemnity (1944), Dathan in The Ten Commandments (1956), and his final performance as Sol Roth in the science-fiction classic Soylent Green (1973).

Robinson was selected for an Honorary Academy Award for his work in the film industry, which was posthumously awarded two months after the actor's death in 1973. He was included at #24 in the American Film Institute's list of the 25 greatest male stars in American cinema. [Wikipedia]

  1. I have seen 9 of his movies...but I got off to a rough start as I had only seen 1 movie before Double Indemnity....did much better after that movie. Edward G. Robinson is one of the great character actors of all-time. It is a shame that he never got nominated for an Oscar.. It is amazing to see how Humphrey Bogart's name keeps getting bigger and bigger on the poster as the years go by. Job well done my friend.

  2. I've seen 15 films on this page, I have some of his early films in the collection. A few films here I'd like to see - Tiger Shark - looks interesting, love the poster and I don't think I've seen Confessions of a Nazi Spy. I agree he was one of the great character actors and very popular in his day. Thanks for commenting Bruce.
